I had two amazing friends come to Ketchum and we went to the hot springs yesterday when it was 30 degrees outside. It was surreal to be surrounded by snow, inches away from an icy river, but toasty warm due to geothermal activity.

After changing into warm clothes, I wrapped my wet clothes in my wet towel. I left this in my car over night and went to do laundry today. It was a solid cube of sulfur-smelling ice. Literally rock solid, since the low last night was 12 degrees.

Ketchum is beautiful. It’s even more beautiful covered in snow. But it’s freezing. I don’t even change into pajamas because the idea of exposing my skin to the cold, even in the house, is unbearable. I also am not running much heat because it’s not my house or my utility bill. So when I move into my own cabin on Dec. 1st, I will start wearing pajamas again. I’m really looking forward to this.

I had big plans of walking up a mountain today because the skies are blue. But after brunch with coworkers, I walked to my car and my teeth were shattering and decided I will do laundry and read a book and drink coffee.

The Laundromat here is also a dog grooming place, appropriately called Laundromutt. So today I’m surrounded by golden retrievers and it’s warming me up to cuddle with them. This is good because I threw my jacket in the wash as well.

Dog sitting reminds me I’m not ready to have my own dog. One dog wasn’t responding to my commands, so when I went to see what she was up to, she was gnawing on a head of a dead deer. I couldn’t even go near here to get her attention because it was so gross.

I don’t even have to apologize for this random, disconnected post because the word of the day is desultory.

  1. Good Morning Beth,
I loved your post! I love words and learning new ones, but the pics and story of the hot springs are also awesome.
It will be nice to be able to change into PJs again. It’s something I look forward to and do asap. If I’m done my out of house stuff by 6p, you will fine me in my PJs by then LOL. I really don’t think it would be bad to turn up the heat a bit to at least make it PJable (a new word I just made up!). Maybe offer a bit toward the heat? I look forward to your next post. I’m sure I found you via instagram an am a new and impressed follower.
    God Bless,
    Pat

  2. Hahaha! Dying. I can just imagine little syd eating a little deer and having to give her away because I could never look at her the same. Also… How have we never thought of opening a place like the laundromutt?!? I mean really!?
